DaMingDingDing, a Chinese hot pot restaurant in Fuzhou, stands out from the crowd with its unique design. Drawing inspiration from elements of oriental culture, including window crafts, symbols, and constellations, Hui Hsin Cheng has created a space that immerses diners in the atmosphere of a royal palace. The restaurant's seating zones are separated by metal plates, providing privacy while maintaining visual penetration for natural interaction.
The restaurant's unique properties lie in its attention to detail. From the chandelier symbolizing the Chinese constellation to the exquisite decoration of the dining hall, DaMingDingDing aims to satisfy customers not only with its delicacies but also through the fulfillment of various sensations. The pot area, in particular, uses linear changes of light strips to create a beautiful experience of gathering and dining under a time tunnel.
DaMingDingDing's design was realized over the course of a year, from October 2018 to September 2019. The project, which took place in Taiwan and Fuzhou, resulted in a 220 square meter restaurant on the third floor of a shopping mall in Fuzhou. Despite the challenges of standing out among numerous Chinese fast food restaurants in the mall, Hui Hsin Cheng succeeded in creating a modern atmosphere that appeals to young customers.
The design process involved extensive research into oriental culture and brand representation. Hui Hsin Cheng judiciously arranged elements throughout the space, integrating them into a cohesive design that represents the brand's culture. The result is a Chinese hot pot restaurant that not only offers delicious food but also a unique dining experience that transports customers through time and space.
DaMingDingDing's innovative design has not gone unnoticed. In 2021, it was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations. The award recognizes the designer's prodigy and wisdom, as well as the design's extraordinary excellence and significant impact on the world.
